Worship At Chalmers Church

In recent years we at Chalmers Church have been working to create a style of worship that honours our traditional Presbyterian roots but expresses them in a contemporary voice.

Each Sunday at 10:00 am the Chalmers community meets for worship. We assemble together to offer prayers, to sing hymns, to read the Scriptures and to honour the Lord as we reflect on how the faith we profess may become more visible in the lives we live.

The music, long an integral part of Christian worship, reflects both the traditional and the contemporary. Congregational singing includes the traditional hymns of the church augmented with an ever expanding repertoire of contemporary Praise Time music. Our Organist and Choir Director, and the Chalmers Adult Choir assist and inspire the congregaton in the worship services.

The preaching attempts to explore what the scriptures teach in such a way that the practical implications of the word are related to the every day circumstances of ordinary lives. Preaching themes follow the pattern of the Christian Year: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter, Ascension Day, and Pentecost. On two or three occasions each year a brief series of services will focus on a particular theme or portion of scripture. On occasion special musical presentations, chancel drama and multi-voiced scripture readings are the means used to give a contemporary vitality of expression to the Gospel message. We invite you to check out our Weekly Events page for information about special worship services that are on the horizon.

Prayer is a significant element in our worship services. We invite prayer requests for those with special needs amongst the people of the Chalmers community and their friends and neighbours. We believe that it is a part of our calling as Christians to care for others and to uphold them in our prayers. Our caring for those in need begins with prayer and continues as we use all that the Lord has entrusted to us to respond in the spirit of the Gospel.

We also believe that worship is for people of all ages in the Christian community. Therefore, we begin the weekly worship service in the sanctuary with both adults and children present. Part way through the service the children and youth of the congregation move into worship and educational programs especially designed for their age group. (Nursery care is provided throughout the service time for infants and for those children who are yet too young to be comfortable in the worship service.)

If, at present, you are not actively participating in worship in the Christian community we would like to invite you to visit Chalmers Church. As one writer commented, "Worship has a way of helping people know what is really important in life. Even for busy people, it's time well spent. If you're running out of time try investing some in worship."
